Introductory Lecture by Professor Larry Speck

Architecture and Society
Arts, Design and Media
Age group: Middle/Junior High School, High School

What can the built environment teach us about a society’s values? What does a building’s design say about the time and place in which it was built? In this iconic lecture from the UTSOA’s Architecture and Society course, Professor Larry Speck demonstrates that architecture is a physical embodiment of who we are. Through works of popular culture such as Harry Potter, Romeo and Juliet, and the Wizard of Oz, Professor Speck explores how good artists can utilize architecture to create meaning and evoke emotions.
