Studying French and Italian at UT Austin
Arts, Design and Media
Age group: All Ages, Middle/Junior High School

Welcome to the Department of French and Italian, where you can learn new languages, explore the diversities of Italian and French cultures, and become a global citizen.  Even though Italy and France are countries far away, French and Italian speakers are nonetheless right at home here in Texas. Undergraduate students in this video will tell you all about their experiences in language classes: how much they love them, why they are taking them, and how excited they are about learning French or Italian. As Evan says about his French class, “I wanted to take a language that was different from what most of my friends were taking,” which “turned out nothing but the best for me;” or like Ligianel explains about her Italian course, “it’s a small class so it always feels like a conversation tra amici (among friends)”. Becoming fluent in French or Italian is not just an invaluable life-skill and a bonus for future jobs, it can also prepare you for studying (and working) abroad. Minoring or majoring in French or Italian is a thrilling challenge that sets you up for success after graduation. We hope you’ll enjoy this video and we look forward to sharing all the magic and wonder of learning French and Italian with you, our future students. Au revoir, ci vediamo presto, see you soon.
